December 6, 2023 Day 92 This week will focus on watering and harvesting... Maybe. Strawberry Gorilla: She is fading, beautiful and colorful! Her aroma is sweet, pungent and loud. She's taking water in at a great pace. About a quarter gallon a day. A tiny bit slower than before. So this is another sign of maturity. I'd say another week and she will be ready for harvest. I doubt it will be any longer. She has all the signs of maturity except for the trichome mix. Her pistils are still sticking out a bit. So that's also a thing. Maybe a little more than a week. We shall see. Gorilla Cookies: This plant is kind of a mess. Foxtails on the tops, skinny loose buds on the bottom. No idea what happened here. Anyway, she is looking alright. Lots of bud sites and still a good 2 weeks left of flower. So I'm still hoping for some weight to be put on. She's drinking roughly just over a quarter gallon a day. I'm going to increase the bloom Nutrients a bit to see if it helps with some final growth. Also, I'm a bit confused with how little she is drinking for such a tall plant. She has plenty of girth for at least a half gallon a day. I will say that the leaves are definitely lightening up a bit. So no more concerns with Nitrogen. I'm also wondering why her leaves are so small. Maybe it is the mix of autoflower, container size and tent size. All compact. But with a taller plant. 🤔 Who knows? Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.9° RH: 50.3% VPD: 1.40 kPa December 7, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This is my best of the 3 Strawberry Gorillas I have been growing. There's one in the main tent that will most certainly have a larger yield, but she isn't quite as nice as this one. The fade is beautiful. Her buds are rock hard from top to bottom. Even the little popcorn buds are insanely dense. Her aroma is sweet, pungent and super loud. She has about the week left. I think. Trichomes are mostly cloudy, but there's still a decent amount of clear and a few amber on the sugar leaves. So that should be about right. A full 2 weeks of flushing living soil makes sense to me. Gorilla Cookies: She's still a little bit behind. Her top most colas definitely have foxtailing going on. But the buds that are foxtailing are huge and dense. So I'm not too worried anymore. She's taking in a little over a quarter gallon a day. Still don't really get why it's so little based on her size. Oh well. Science that seems to elude me. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.0° RH: 46.7% VPD: 1.50 kPa December 8, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Just more fading. Not a lot. I think she is getting ready to start yellowing and killing off her leaves. Sometime this week. She needs nothing to. Water is fine. Her reservoir is still about a quarter full. When it dries out, I'll be top feeding from then on. A gallon of Flawless Finish should do the trick for the rest of the grow. I don't think she will go any longer than that. If so, plain water after. Gorilla Cookies: Buds are starting to swell more noticably. And she seems to be getting thirstier. She drained the reservoir last night. So a quarter gallon over night. I refilled the reservoir. I'll be leaving it like that for as long as I can. I feel like the nutrients in the soil are doing just fine and I don't think I'll need recharge for a while. She still has to go through the rest that I added last week. Not to mention the constant flow of nutrients from the reservoir. So no top feeding for this one as long as her wick system stays in tact. She has a big ole main cola complete with foxtails. That has to be from the light distance. Nothing else could do that. At least with how she has been taken care of. Maybe it was from the nitrogen toxicity, but I doubt it. It has to be the light. The lower part of the plant doesn't have foxtails. But then again, the lower part of the plant has skinny colas. They should fatten up over the next couple weeks. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.4° RH: 48.0% VPD: 1.48 kPa December 9, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She is almost all purple! What an absolutely gorgeous plant. I couldn't be happier with her outcome. She dried out the reservoir today, so I removed the wick system and will top feed from now on. Flawless Finish and then plain water. I checked her trichomes today as well. Not much change from yesterday. A few more cloudy trichomes, but still very little amber. I want to see around 15% amber. There aren't any on the buds either. So the rest of the week. I'm wondering if I started the flush too early. No idea. I don't think so though. Soil takes 2 weeks to flush. Gorilla Cookies: She's putting weight on her top buds. The lower branches are starting to put weight on as well. She needs no water today. Everything looks great. Nothing to do with her. I may pull her out and try to clean up the undergrowth a bit in a few days. Just a tiny bit. You know, find the largest leaves and snip them off. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.6° RH: 46.6% VPD: 1.57 kPa December 10, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She is even more beautiful. No shedding of leaves, but some lower ones are starting to yellow a bit. Nothing falling off, but I don't really expect it to. She is short and level and has light throughout the entire plant. I won't be checking trichomes today. I don't think they are ready yet. I'll check in a day or 2. She got a half gallon flush with 8 ml Flawless Finish. After this gallon, I'll switch to plain water. Gorilla Cookies: She looks alright. Nothing really going on with her. She got a reservoir top off and seems to be putting on more weight. Not much on the swelling right now, but I think she still has an extra week left in flower. Her leaves are a beautiful green. Not too deep and not too light. The lowest part of the plant will certainly have tons of popcorn and larf. I'll add those to the trimmings. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.2° RH: 50.9% VPD: 1.49 kPa December 11, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: 1 more day and I'll do another flush. Her fade seems to have stopped. Very pretty plant, but the leaves are starting to get crumbly. Some of them anyway. The rest are locked in at beautiful stages of purple and yellow. I was going to check the trichomes today, but I still feel like she has more time. A few more days. Gorilla Cookies: She got a reservoir top off today. No top water needed. I also tried to flip her around, but the main cola would be directly under the light. That will cause more issues with the foxtailing and potential light burn, so I put it back. Bummer. The whole side of the plant there is under developed. So it will definitely take more time. How much more? Maybe a week? So closer to 4 weeks before harvest I think. Maybe 3 weeks. I'm over estimating I think, but that's good. I'm in no rush. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.9° RH: 49.3% VPD: 1.47 kPa December 12, 2023 This is the end of week 13. I'm starting to think I'm doing something very wrong. I've never actually come even close to harvesting any plant within the timeframe of the breeders. Nowhere close. Both of these strains are 10 week strains. I'll have to figure it out at some point. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. DM me or leave a comment. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks on this situation. Strawberry Gorilla: She has just a couple days left. I was considering harvesting tomorrow, but I decided to give her about a liter of Flawless Finish. Honestly, I should have just let her go, but I'm not satisfied with her amber trichomes count yet. Not to mention, she really isn't showing any signs of dying off. Her leaves have faded, but nothing is yellowing yet. A few more days won't hurt. Plus I'm also waiting for another Strawberry Gorilla in the main tent to finish up. Then I'll have space to move Gorilla Cookies into the main tent. Gorilla Cookies: Nothing to do with her today. No dying leaves. No shedding, nothing but bulking up and maybe building some more buds, but I don't think so. I think she is resting before she fills up her buds with wonderfulness. In the next 2 to 3 weeks, she will have fat heavy buds that pull the branches down. At least that's what every picture I see has been doing. I don't expect any different for this plant. It's just taking more time. No water needed today. I'll do a top off tomorrow. I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure these foxtails may cause an issue. They are super dense though and it seems the actual cola is getting fat and heavy. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.5° RH: 45.0% VPD: 1.61 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
