Hello hello! And we are back at the top of week 10 and I can’t believe it! 10 weeks already!
Okay so to start off I am going to introduce to you, some new friends of ours that will be joining our team for this run- future harvest nutrients has been kind enough to let us test out their “holland secret tri pack” which includes 3 bottles: their micro, grow and bloom. They offer plenty of additives that can be used along side them but for this run we are just going to test out the three in this pack and will be adding to our arsenal from there.
This week I had spent quite a bit of time in the tent maintaining that canopy- literally hours defoliating and training and weaving away. I have to say every single time I defoliate I have mixed feelings… I know from experience that it bounces back even bigger and better than before but there hasn’t been one time yet where I have done a major defol and haven’t felt a little uneasy immediately after- something about taking a plant that is super lush and then stripping that away- generally speaking, I like to think of the fan leaves as the plants solar panels and try to leave any that aren’t blocking potential bud sites- but in all honesty, this time I was a bit more heavy handed in defoliating and took off a bit more than usual…
I did this for a couple reasons- one being airflow.. as I had mentioned above, it was getting pretty lush and dense and I didn’t want to overlook any areas that would create any microclimates that may eventually lead to things like bud rot 😟😬😱 so I defoliated to open it up a bit, and I will be adding my dual oscillating fan to increase the airflow.
And then I am also trying to really fill out the entire scrog net and create new bud sites and a lot of those fan leaves were getting large and as beautiful as they looked, they were covering up plenty of bud sites to be so they had to go. Up to this point I hadn’t done any major defoliation so there was a lot to do.
But once I took off all those leaves, then I COULDNT leave it like that…. I had to go in, clean everything up and tie everything back down. On one hand it’s kind of silly I had meticulously combed though that canopy considering the fact that one we flip it, we will start to see more variation in the branch/bud height- buuut on the other hand, the more even it is up until the flip the meet even it should be in the end and more bud sites should be produced.
One thing is for sure- I know that when I grow autos, the number one thing I miss is the ability to just play endlessly. You make a bit of a booboo, and no problem-your good in a matter of days or weeks. I need to just sit back relax and enjoy the process- patience is a virtue as they say.
I’ve recently heard someone say they never scrog because of the bud size and pixie stick stems… to this- I just say that I have done both- and I know as far as trimming, those spears are great and Really can be quite impressive however there is also something extremely satisfying about filling out a certain amount of space with one plant- and then watching it produce and yield for you. To be completely honest, from a yield perspective, I don’t know which one has worked out better for me. Usually they get jarred up and start to cure but i have never actually weighed after cure. This is something I do for my wife and I so my units of measurement aren’t in grams and ounces- no no it’s more of an “enough” or “not enough” type of deal and fortunately since day one there’s been no issue making sure we have “enough”
We are most of the way there (as far as approaching flipday) however, I imagine that with the goal of entirely filling out that net, we still have a few weeks.. it stinks because I am dying to flip that thing but I see we are making quite a bit of progress so I will try to sit tight and just let it do it’s thing- I expect that my fastbuds run will be finishing before this one so as long as I can stick to the game plan I think we are going to have some awesome stuff going on over here- which is great because I got in on that drop he did with green bodhi and snagged some Hindu root beer so that’ll get me super stoked to try that one down the line.
Growmies, as always- thank you for stopping by, you are the best and I hope all your gardens are super lush (apparently word of the day) and bursting with buds!!! I will see you next time same time same place, keep it real everybody, grower love!! 💚🤙🌱
