Introduction - Week 05 Summary - Ensign's log, stardate 100408.73, A better week of growing! Decided to stop watering for a bit but am continuing to use the plastic mulch cover. To help with recovery, early in the week, I misted a bit of Clonex Solution. Not sure if this really did anything, but since I already have a bottle I figured why not. Mid-week, she was actually looking a lot better! So decided to hold off on starting a new seed. Sprayed her with CalMag throughout the week. But haven't poured any water into the reservoir (have not watered her for just over a week). To help further dry out the soil, I opted to skip this week's fertilizer feeding. Eventually the damaged leaves were defoliated. There's still a bit if damage, but a lot less than last week. By the end of the week, I think she has recovered? Growth is starting to ramp up again. Nice! Was struggling with the local VPD, but by the end of the week (and after adjusting the humidifier settings), managed to lower it down to better and more stable levels. The humidifier now requires daily refilling, but as long as she is healthy, I am totally fine this. Also been misting the top of the mulch cover daily. Please continue to grow and recover girl! Yea she is stunted. --- Misted the top of the EarthBox with distilled water. --- Also refilled the humidifier. - [21:34]: Evening check. --- Well top growth seems okay. --- But more yellowing of the lower leaves. --- Misted the top of the EarthBox with distilled water. --- Did not add any water to the reservoir. --- Will probably start a new bean this Thursday (damnit Ensign). - [23:10]: Decided to foliar spray a bit of Clonex Solution. --- Filled a measuring cup with 1/4cup of distilled water. --- Added 1mL of Clonex Clone Solution --- Mixed the solution and misted her leaves with a spray bottle (discarded the rest). But lower grow still continues to yellow. - [17:10]: Gave the top of the EarthBox a misting of distilled water. --- Did not add any water to the reservoir. Day 03 - Wednesday - 10/19/22 - Total Days: 035 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 77.2°F [25.1°C] - Humidity: 61.2% - VPD: 1.21 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:32]: Morning check. --- Her top leaves are betting larger. --- Lower leaves are continuing to yellow. - [21:36]: Evening check. --- Well her top growth is looking better (I think). --- Misted the top of the EarthBox with distilled water. --- Refilled the humidifier. --- Did not add any water to the reservoir. Day 04 - Thursday - 10/20/22 - Total Days: 036 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 77.7°F [25.4°C] - Humidity: 70.7% - VPD: 0.93 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:41]: Morning check. --- Her top leaves are getting larger. --- But her bottom growth is still yellowing. --- Checked her height. --- She was around 7.75" tall. --- Well she did get taller. --- Misted the top of the EarthBox with distilled water. --- Comparing growth to my last attempt, she is falling behind. --- But I think she is recovering. --- Please recover girl! --- [*smokes a bowl and several dabs] --- So, --- Was planning to do a new seed soak today, but going to hold off another week. --- To hopefully help a bit with recovery, deciding to decrease the DLI for a bit. In terms of intensity, rolling back the PPFD by a week (or two). --- At lights on (or sometime after 16:00), plan to raise the light up until the canopy is closer to 308 μmol/m2/s which would give a DLI closer to 20 mol/m2/d --- Also, by raising the light, hopefully will increase the RH around the canopy (less evaporative heat). --- As for her weekly feeding, going to push this back another week as well (still haven't poured any water into the reservoir neither). - [17:08]: Evening check. --- She's looking perky. Top growth looks okay. --- Took a PPFD reading. --- Took a PPFD reading which was at 577 μmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 37.39 mol/m2/d --- To lower the PPFD closer to the new target goal of 308 μmol/m2/s, I raised the light up. - [17:19]: After a bit of adjusting, I lifted the light up quite a bit. --- New PPFD readings were at 310 μmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 20.09 mol/m2/d --- With a new lowered DLI goal of 20 mol/m2/d, this is good enough. --- The distance between the top of the canopy and the light is now around 23" --- Not going to feed any fertilizer today. --- Did not add any water to the reservoir. - [17:29]: Decided to foliar feed a bit of CalMag. --- Filled a measuring cup with 1cup of distilled water. --- Added 0.25mL of CaliMagic --- Mixed the solution and misted her leaves with a spray bottle (discarded the rest). --- Also refilled the humidifier. --- I think she might make a recovery! --- Going to try adjusting the controller settings to help increase the RH. Day 05 - Friday - 10/21/22 - Total Days: 037 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 77.4°F [25.2°C] - Humidity: 74.3% - VPD: 0.81 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:23]: Morning checkup. --- Well looking better. --- Top growth is not looking yellow. --- Refilled the humidifier. - [21:33]: Evening checkup. --- Aye looking a lot better! --- Going to defoliate the dying leaves. - [21:35]: Using a pair of trimmers, I carefully snipped off all of the damaged leaves. --- Wow! Looking much better! --- Now if more leaves begin drying up, I'll be able to easily tell. --- The removed leaves were placed under the mulch cover to decompose back into nutrients. --- Still have not added any water to the reservoir. --- Going to give her another CalMag misting. - [21:46]: Filled a measuring cup with 1cup of distilled water. --- Added 0.25mL of CaliMagic --- Mixed the solution and misted her leaves with a spray bottle. Will keep the rest for mistings in the morning and evening tomorrow. CalMag doesn't go bad right? - [23:24]: Oh! Also local VPD levels are looking a lot better too! --- Raising the light seemed to have helped a bit. --- But adjusting the humidifier's controller settings seemed to really help stabilize the RH. --- I basically changed two settings. --- The first was the humidifier's continuous operating time (COT). This was changed from the default of 30min to 0. This setting basically controls the ON/OFF cycles. The old settings had the humidifier on an ON/OFF cycle of 30 minutes (30min ON, 30min OFF) or until the RH target value was reached (currently set to 78% RH). I wish there was a way to set the off time, but the off time is the same as the on time. With the COT set to 0, the humidifier will now stay on until the designated target RH value is achieved. --- The second setting adjusted was the humidity's protection time (HPT). This was changed from the default of 3min to 2min. This setting basically is an off delay after the humidifier is shut off. By shortening this duration a bit, I hope to keep the RH from dropping too low between off cycles. --- Both of these adjustments will definitely use more water, but as long as the RH stabilizes, I am okay with giving the extra water. --- Please recover girl! Day 06 - Saturday - 10/22/22 - Total Days: 038 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.0°F [24.4°C] - Humidity: 74.0% - VPD: 0.78 kPa ----------------------------------- - [07:24]: Morning checkup. --- Woah! --- She's nice and green! --- The yellowing seems to have almost completely stopped (one leaf has the slightest yellowing of the tip). --- Great! - [07:26]: Foliar sprayed more of the CalMag solution from yesterday. --- Also misted the top of the EarthBox. --- Refilled the humidifier with more distilled water (and about 20mL of Hydrogen Peroxide [HP]). - [19:35]: Evening check! --- Why hello there beautiful! --- I think she's just about recovered from the over-watering. Nice! --- Can't find any new yellowing growth. Hyped! - [19:37]: Foliar sprayed even more of the same CalMag solution. --- Misted the top of the EarthBox with a bit of the solution as well (discarded the rest). --- Refilled the humidifier again with more distilled water (and 20mL of HP). Day 07 - Sunday - 10/23/22 - Total Days: 039 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.7°F [24.3°C] - Humidity: 72.5% - VPD: 0.82 kPa ----------------------------------- - [07:39]: Morning check! --- Nice! She's getting bigger! --- Growth has definitely been slowed (compared to the last grow), but she's looking perkier! --- Unfortunately, since she's an autoflower, I can't simply keep her in veg for another week to make up for the loss in growth. --- Misted the her leaves along with the top of the EarthBox with distilled water. - [21:15]: Evening checkup! --- Woah! She's getting bigger! --- Her leaves still have a bit of damage, but I'm both relieved and hyped that she's recovering! --- Misted the her leaves along with the top of the EarthBox with distilled water. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and 20mL of HP. - [23:13]: Took some end of week height readings. --- Wow! --- She was just under 9" tall! --- Measured the distance between the top of the canopy and light which was around a 22" gap. --- Well so ends another week of growing. --- She looks a whole lot better than last week! --- Plan to start watering into the reservoir again soon (maybe next week), but until she gets bigger, going to try to have a dry period between waterings (don't frack this up again Ensign). Going to start with 1-2 cups every 3 days and will adjust from there. [END OF WEEK 05]
