Introduction - Week 09 Summary - Ensign's log, stardate 100485.45, Another pretty smooth week of growing! Early in the week I started foliar feeding. I have yet to add any water into the reservoir. Growth was also looking nice and healthy for the young plant in the original EarthBox! Glad to also say that the twin seedlings are both doing well! The runt has grown out of the weird leaf growth and is now looking a lot better! Did another round of defoliation mid week. Also fully covered the EarthBox with the mulch cover. Gently cut a new hole and slid the new young plant through. Still have yet to top water the soil and reservoir (the soil meter still has readings that are off the scale). Started top watering the uncovered EarthBox. To help dial in these waterings, been using a soil moisture meter. I really don't want to overwater again. Plan to apply the mulch cover soon. Shaka.. Well sort of forgot to take PPFD readings last week (Opps). This week I made sure to take readings. Also the youngling in the original EarthBox is starting to outgrow the humidity dome. Will have to remove it soon. Overall a simple and easy week of growing! Nice! --- Both twin seedlings seem to be really starting to take off with growth! --- Was a bit worried about the runt, but she seems to be doing just fine. Great! --- Not going to water anything. - [21:30]: Evening checkup! --- Lower growth on the main grow seems to be getting perkier. Nice! --- All of the seedlings look great! --- Not going to water the seedling in the main EarthBox. --- As for the new EarthBox, misted around each grow bag along with the entire top soil with distilled water. --- Also misted the top growth of the main grow with distilled water. Just enough to wet her leaves. --- Re-placed the humidity domes with the vents fully open. --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water and a bit of Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). Time to foliar feed! --- Going with a simple seedling dosage to see how she responds. - [16:11]: Filled a measuring cup with 1/2cup of distilled water. --- Added half of 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Added 1/64tsp of Horticultural Aloe --- Added 1/32tsp of Pure Protein Dry [Organic Fish Aminos] --- Added half of 1/64tsp of Big 6 Micronutrients [+ Humic Acid] --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. - [16:36]: Rotated the EarthBoxes so the main grow was in front. --- Defoliated the damaged leaves. - [16:45]: Misted the main grow's top growth. --- Just enough to coat the leaves. --- Tucked the trimmings under the mulch cover. --- Waited about 30 minutes. --- Then re-sprayed the leaves again. --- Rotated the EarthBoxes back to the default configuration. - [17:23]: Filled the spray bottle to 250mL (~1.06 cup) with distilled water. --- Misted the rest of the solution onto the top soil of the new EarthBox. I made sure to mist around the grow bags. --- I did not mist any of the seedlings with the solution. --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water and some Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). Day 03 - Wednesday - 11/16/22 - Total Days: 063 [018] [014] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.5°F [24.7°C] - Humidity: 68.1% - VPD: 0.97 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:19]: Morning checkup! --- Looking good! --- Everyone looks pretty happy! --- Did not mist any water. --- Just placed the humidity domes back on with vents fully open. - [21:04]: Evening checkup! --- Misted around the grow bag in the main EarthBox with distilled water. Then slightly misted the top growth of each of the twin seedlings. --- Then continued to mist about a cup of distilled water onto the top soil of the EarthBox. Tried to spray as evenly as possible. --- Re-placed the humidity domes with the vents fully open. --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water and a bit of Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). Day 04 - Thursday - 11/17/22 - Total Days: 064 [019] [015] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.7°F [24.8°C] - Humidity: 68.2% - VPD: 0.98 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:40]: Quick morning checkup! --- Great! --- Everyone is looking nice and healthy! --- Slightly misted around the seedling in the main EarthBox (around the grow bag). --- Then misted around each grow bag in the new EarthBox. --- Plan to foliar feed tonight. - [17:05]: Evening checkup! --- Nice! --- Looking pretty good ma ladies! - [17:30]: Checked the soil with a moisture meter. --- Wow. --- For the main EarthBox, I haven't poured water into the reservoir in over a month. --- Yet soil moisture was still off the scale. --- Shaka.. --- To compare the soil (and to check if the meter was working), I also checked the new EarthBox's soil which was pretty dry. --- Hmm. --- Still not sure why the moisture is off the charts in the main EarthBox, but at least the meter seems to be working. --- Going to continue to hold off on soil watering. --- At least the young plant seems nice and healthy. --- Opps, last week I forgot to take DLI readings (damnit Ensign). --- So, - [18:44]: Took PPFD readings. --- PPFD readings of the main grow was at 356 μmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 23.07 mol/m2/d --- PPFD readings for the seedlings were at 205 μmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 13.28 mol/m2/d --- Not going to adjust anything. --- Decided to keep the DLI the same for another week or so. - [19:01]: Took height readings. --- The seedling in the main EarthBox was about 2.5" tall! --- Both the twin seedlings were around 2.25" tall! --- The distance between the seedlings and light was around 31.5" --- Rotated the EarthBoxes. --- The main grow was around 15" tall! --- The distance between the top of the canopy of the main grow and light was around 18" --- Hmm. --- During the height check, I noticed the seedling in the main EarthBox's center stalk was changing from brown to green (similar to the main grow's stalk). --- Could this be a way of determining when a seedling has transitioned into veg? --- The center stalk for the twin seedlings were still quite brown. --- Fascinating. 🖖 --- Will continue to check if or when the center stalks change color. --- Anyways, --- Time for another foliar feeding! --- Not going to foliar feed the seedlings. --- Going with the exact same seedling dosage from Tuesday. - [19:24]: Filled a measuring cup with 1/2cup of distilled water. --- Added half of 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Added 1/64tsp of Horticultural Aloe --- Added 1/32tsp of Pure Protein Dry [Organic Fish Aminos] --- Added half of 1/64tsp of Big 6 Micronutrients [+ Humic Acid] --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. - [19:43]: Defoliated the yellowing and necrotic leaves. --- Tucked the trimmings under the mulch cover. - [19:51]: Misted the main grow's top growth. --- Just enough to coat the leaves. --- Waited about 30 minutes. --- Then re-sprayed the top growth again. --- Just like last time, going to dilute the rest of the solution and mist the new EarthBox. --- Rotated the EarthBoxes back to the default configuration. - [20:28]: Filled the spray bottle to 250mL (~1.06 cup) with distilled water. --- Misted the rest of the solution onto the top soil of the new EarthBox. --- I made sure to mist around the grow bags and did not mist any of the seedlings with the solution. --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). - [20:51]: Decided to apply the mulch cover to the seedling (which is now more like a young vegging plant) in the main EarthBox. --- To do this, I first carefully covered the plant with a clear solo cup. --- Then very gently covered the EarthBox with the plastic mulch cover. --- Using a pair of scissors, I gently cut an x-shape into the mulch cover (where the top of the cup was at). Then using a bit of sticky putty, I folded and secured each flap to make a square hole. --- Once this was done, I pulled back the mulch cover and removed the cup. --- Next, while re-covering the mulch cover, I very carefully slid the plant through the newly created hole. --- Re-placed the humidity dome (vents fully open). --- Done! --- Since I'm not going to pour water into the reservoir for at least another month or so, I figured might as well use the mulch cover. --- This should also help to evenly re-distribute the moisture from the bottom soil back up to the top soil. --- I really want to foliar feed her, but will hold off. --- Her leaves are all still nice and dark green so not going to give her anymore nutrients or water. --- PLEASE.. Day 05 - Friday - 11/18/22 - Total Days: 065 [020] [016] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.4°F [24.7°C] - Humidity: 73.2% - VPD: 0.82 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:33]: Quick early morning checkup! --- Ladies are looking nice and healthy! --- Did not mist any water. --- Placed the domes back on with vents fully open. - [21:03]: Evening checkup! --- Aye nice looking good girls! --- Only going to mist the twins tonight. --- Misted a bit of distilled water around each grow bag. Then misted each seedling with 1-2 sprays. --- Re-placed all the humidity domes (vents fully open on all). --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). - [22:37]: Checked the soil in the new EarthBox with a moisture meter. --- According to the meter, the soil was pretty dry (with a reading of 2 out of 10). --- Decided to slowly start top watering the soil in the new EarthBox. --- Filled a measuring cup with 2 cups of distilled water. --- Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Keeping the domes, I gently misted the entire bottle onto the top soil of the new EarthBox. --- Will check the soil tomorrow with the meter to see if the soil is wetter than today and will adjust the top watering accordingly. --- Really don't want to over water. Again (and again). --- Please don't screw this up Ensign. Day 06 - Saturday - 11/19/22 - Total Days: 066 [021] [017] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.3°F [24.6°C] - Humidity: 69.3% - VPD: 0.93 kPa ----------------------------------- - [06:45]: Quick early morning checkup! --- Ladies are looking nice and healthy! --- Did not mist any water. --- Placed the domes back on with vents fully open. - [19:10]: Evening checkup! --- Everyone is looking very nice! --- All growth looks nice and happy! --- Checked the soil in the uncovered EarthBox for moisture. --- According to the meter, the soil was still dry (~2 out of 10). --- Going to keep the watering the same at 2 cups. - [19:16]: Filled a measuring cup with 2 cups of distilled water. --- Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Keeping the domes, I gently misted the entire bottle onto the top soil of the new EarthBox. --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water and some Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- If the soil is still dry tomorrow, plan to increase the watering to 3 cups. --- Don't plan to bottom water for at least another 2-3 weeks so want to get the top watering right. - [21:24]: Aye another full board! --- Time to reset and start a new one! Day 07 - Sunday - 11/20/22 - Total Days: 067 [022] [018] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.4°F [24.7°C] - Humidity: 69.3% - VPD: 0.93 kPa ----------------------------------- - [07:40]: Morning checkup! --- Wow looking good girls! --- All growth looking great! --- The seedlings in the new EarthBox have a dark green color and just look healthy! - [19:25]: Good evening my girls! --- Growth is looking nice and green! --- Okay time to foliar feed! - [19:44]: Filled a measuring cup with 1/2cup of distilled water. --- Added half of 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Added 1/64tsp of Horticultural Aloe --- Added 1/32tsp of Pure Protein Dry [Organic Fish Aminos] --- Added half of 1/64tsp of Big 6 Micronutrients [+ Humic Acid] --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Did not defoliate any leaves. --- Rotated the EarthBoxes. - [19:57]: Misted the top growth evenly. --- Also gently misted the seedling too. --- Just enough to coat the leaves. --- Waited about 30 minutes. --- Then re-sprayed the top growth for only the large plant. Did not re-mist the seedling. --- Going to dilute the rest of the solution and mist the uncovered EarthBox. --- Rotated the EarthBoxes back to the default configuration. - [20:40]: Filled the spray bottle to 500mL (~2.12 cup) with distilled water. --- Misted the rest of the solution onto the top soil of the new EarthBox. --- Mist around each grow bag with the diluted solution. --- This time I decided to also slightly mist both of the seedlings with the same solution. --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL).
