Introduction - Week 03 Summary -
Ensign's log, stardate 9227.26,
Well it wouldn’t be a newbie grow without some grow issues.
Looking back at this week, I may have overfed or over-watered (or both).
Both plants are still pre-vegging.. I think.
Started watering daily, but by the end of the week decided to let the soil dry out a bit.
Gave both girls a veg feeding early in the week but had some leaf tip burning issues shortly after (damnit Ensign).
Growth could be worse but can definitely be better.
Also been having slight humidifier issues (the unit keeps disconnecting at the UIS port).
Hope these girls recover soon.

Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.3°F [26.3°C]
- Humidity: 74.1%
- VPD: 0.87 kPa
- Soil %: [42, 30, 33, 35]
-----------------------------------
- [17:00]: Evening check.
--- Garden is looking happy!
--- Both plants are perky and looking green!
--- As far as growth structure, both plants are clearly showing genetic differences.
--- The #1 pheno seems to have more broader indica-like leaves whereas #2 is showing more thinner sativa-like leaves.
--- Also #2 is a bit taller which can be a sativa trait (indica growth is usually more squat).
--- Going to start feeding full veg dosages.
- [17:07]: Filled a measuring cup with 2 cups of distilled water.
------ Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60]
------ Added 1/32tsp of:
--------- Horticultural Aloe
--------- Big 6 Micronutrients [+ Humic Acid]
------ Added 1/16tsp of Mycrobe Complete
------ Added 1/8tsp of Pure Protein Dry [Organic Fish Aminos]
--- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a pump sprayer.
- [17:21]: Misted the solution onto the top soil of both EarthBoxes.
--- Also misted both grow bags.
--- Did not spray any of the top growth.
--- Focused on the top soil around each plant.
- [17:25]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was just over half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1.5gal) along with some Hydrogen Peroxide (~30mL).
Day 02 - Tuesday - 03/19/24 - Total Days: 022
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.5°F [26.4°C]
- Humidity: 73.8%
- VPD: 0.89 kPa
- Soil %: [42, 30, 33, 35]
-----------------------------------
- [17:00]: Evening check.
--- Nice! Both girls are looking happy and green!
--- Growing along beautifully!
- [17:03]: Ooo, two of the Ecowitt soil sensors are almost completely drained.
--- Time to replace the soil batteries!
--- Going to swap out the whole lot.
- [17:06]: Temporarily removed all the sensors and placed them into a cup.
--- Filled in each sensor hole with the surrounding soil. Pressed and flattened the top soil.
--- Also went around each grow bag and compacted the soil down a bit more.
- [17:15]: Placed the sensors back into each EarthBox.
--- Swapped out the batteries before placing each sensor back.
--- Also made sure the sensor IDs matched the app IDs.
- [17:26]: Vacuumed the tent’s floor.
--- Did not wipe the floor, mainly vacuumed all the dust and dirt.
- [17:33]: Took general PPFD readings.
--- Both plants were around 309 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 20.02 mol/m²/d
- [17:34]: Decided to increase the PPFD by lowering the light a bit closer.
--- Going to try to average about 360 μmol/m²/s
--- Using the ratchet ropes, I gently lowered the FC-6500 a few inches closer to the plants.
- [17:43]: Took new PPFD readings.
--- Both were around 355 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 23.00 mol/m²/d
- [17:46]: Using a spray bottle filled with some premixed CalMag water (1tsp of CaliMagic to 1 gal distilled water),
--- Misted the top soil of both grow bags (~40 sprays each).
- [17:49]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was about half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2gal).
Day 03 - Wednesday - 03/20/24 - Total Days: 023
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.8°F [26.6°C]
- Humidity: 67.7%
- VPD: 1.11 kPa
- Soil %: [40, 30, 34, 38]
-----------------------------------
- [17:36]: Evening check.
--- Garden is looking pretty good!
--- Hmm,
--- #1 is looking nice and perky, but can see a set of burnt leaf tip.
--- #2 is a bit droopy. Also new growth looks sort of yellow.
--- Overall, still looking okay, but getting a bit concerned.
--- Damnit Ensign..
--- Going to water in some Recharge a bit later.
--- Will check if growth gets better or worse.
- [17:40]: Took the weekly height and light distance measurements.
--- #1 is about 4" tall.
--- #2 is about 4.75" tall.
--- #1 was about 29" away from the grow light.
--- #2 was about 28" away from the grow light.
- [17:47]: Using premixed CalMag water (1tsp of CaliMagic to 1 gal distilled water),
--- Filled a measuring cup with 2 cups of the solution.
--- Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60]
--- Added 1/32tsp of Recharge
--- Misted the top soil of both EarthBoxes (~1 cup each).
--- Misted each grow bag but not the top growth.
- [18:01]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was sort of full. Going to top it off anyways.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1.5gal).
--- Well there seems to be an issue now (damnit Ensign)..
--- Could have been the fertilizer feeding (too soon or too concentrated)?
--- Might hold off a week before feeding again.
--- Or maybe the issue was the amount of water (most likely over-watering)?
--- If the drooping and leaf tip burn gets worse, will let the soil dry out a bit more.
--- May change to daily waterings. If I do, will reduce the dosage.
--- Will check back later tonight to see if improvement occurs (or if growth gets worse).
--- [*smokes a few bowls]
- [20:33]: Okay! Quick tent check,
--- Looking a lot better!
--- #1 is looking great! No new issues.
--- #2 is less droopy! Maybe she just needed water?
- [21:02]: The humidifier cut out.. Again,
--- [*smokes a bowl]
--- Okay, have a slight gripe with AC Infinity’s Cloudforge T7..
--- The UIS (USB-C) port design and placement is pretty bad.
--- Since the humidifier was cleaned and moved out of the tent, the UIS port connection has occasionally cut out.
--- Surprisingly, when this occurs, I don’t get any notification or alarm.
--- The only way for me to tell is to check the app or physically look at the controller’s display.
--- Pretty annoying..
--- When this happens, to fix the issue (at least for me), first I’ve been unplugging the unit.
--- Then reseat the UIS cable on the humidifier’s port (unplug, then plug back in).
--- Then re-plug in the unit.
--- From my experience, this doesn’t work unless the unit is off. I’ve tried reseating the cable while the unit is on and have gotten some strange glitches.
--- Also, sometimes this process has to be repeated several times before the connection is fixed.
--- Looking at the Thermoforge, the UIS port design is a lot better which has a recessed port. The UIS cable even has a rubber grommet seal. The humidifier’s UIS port is pretty flimsy and the cable easily wiggles around whenever the unit is moved. Ironically, the built in wheels, although a decent feature, do not help with this issue (may even be the cause of the issue).
--- Kind of funny that the heater (which don’t use water) has a rubber seal, yet the humidifiers (which use water) do not.
--- Since the Thermoforge is newer than the Cloudforge, I’m pretty certain AC Infinity will fix their humidifier ports for the ‘Version 2’ models..
--- Glad to see that they’ve improved the Cloudray fans which are supposed to be more robust and easier to use (better control button placement). The improved design also claims to fix the ‘clicking’ sound issue. Both of my Cloudray S6 (Version 1) fans do make a slight clicking noise. Not too annoying and doesn’t seem to affect the performance of the oscillation, but it is there.
--- Of course, AC Infinity’s products are all top notch and I’m glad to see improvements with each version.
--- Just a little annoyed with my current situation (now have to be careful when refilling or moving the unit).
--- Anyways, back to the grow,
--- On the positive side,
--- Really glad I checked on the tent when I did.
--- If this was a ‘normal’ grow day, probably wouldn’t have noticed until tomorrow morning or evening..
--- Since the humidifier cut out (happened when I refilled the unit earlier in the day), the tent’s environment has been pretty dry.
--- Before the end of the day, plan to check back once more to see if growth improves (or not).
--- [*smokes several more bowls]
- [23:18]: Okay!
--- Another quick tent check,
--- Growth is looking pretty good!
--- Both plants look happy!
--- #2 could be a bit perkier, but the watering seemed to have helped more than damaged.
--- Also the environment is back to proper humidity and VPD levels. For now.
--- Will need to continue to be careful with the humidifier.
--- To stabilize the unit, may try propping the unit up off its wheels which could help with the dis-connection issue.
Day 04 - Thursday - 03/21/24 - Total Days: 024
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.2°F [26.2°C]
- Humidity: 74.2%
- VPD: 0.87 kPa
- Soil %: [41, 31, 36, 45]
-----------------------------------
- [21:41]: Evening check.
--- Garden is looking better!
--- #1 is looking happy and green!
--- #2 looking better, but has slight signs of yellowing on the new growth.
- [21:43]: Using premixed CalMag water (1tsp of CaliMagic to 1 gal distilled water),
--- Filled a pump sprayer with 1 cup of the solution.
--- Misted the top soil of both EarthBoxes (~1/2 cup each).
--- Also misted the top growth of both plants.
- [21:49]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was just over half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2gal).
Day 05 - Friday - 03/22/24 - Total Days: 025
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.1°F [26.2°C]
- Humidity: 74.2%
- VPD: 0.86 kPa
- Soil %: [41, 31, 36, 43]
-----------------------------------
- [22:24]: Evening check.
--- Growth is looking okay, but still not as healthy as the beginning of the week.
--- Going to try to give some potassium silicate to see if the added silica will help.
--- Normally, this should be applied during the pre-bloom stretch phase.
--- A bit concerned about the extra potassium (0-0-32) so going to dilute the solution.
--- Pretty sure potassium is a macro nutrient and is essential for photosynthesis and stomatal activity (I think). So adding a bit extra shouldn’t hurt right?
--- Damnit, please don’t frack this up Ensign..
- [22:33]: Using premixed Agsil water (1/2tsp of Agsil16H to 1 gal distilled water),
--- Filled a measuring cup with 1/2 cup of the solution.
--- Diluted the solution by adding 1/2 cup of distilled water.
--- Mix the solution before pouring it straight into a pump sprayer.
--- Misted the top soil of both EarthBoxes (~1/2 cup each).
--- Also gave the top growth a misting.
- [22:43]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was about half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2gal).
Day 06 - Saturday - 03/23/24 - Total Days: 026
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.1°F [26.2°C]
- Humidity: 74.0%
- VPD: 0.87 kPa
- Soil %: [42, 31, 36, 42]
-----------------------------------
- [20:54]: Evening check.
--- Growth is still looking a bit droopy.
--- Going to increase the watering to see if they perk up or droop.
- [20:57]: Using premixed CalMag water (1tsp of CaliMagic to 1 gal distilled water),
--- Filled a pump sprayer with 2 cups of the solution.
--- Misted the top soil of both EarthBoxes (~1 cup each).
--- Also misted the top growth.
--- I’ll check back to see if the increased watering helps or not.
- [21:07]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was just over half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2gal).
- [22:00]: Time for a grow board wipe!
--- Looking over the past few weeks I think I think I may have fed a bit too early.
--- Well going to hope for the best.
Day 07 - Sunday - 03/24/24 - Total Days: 027
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 78.7°F [25.9°C]
- Humidity: 72.5%
- VPD: 0.91 kPa
- Soil %: [42, 31, 36, 41]
-----------------------------------
- [19:03]: Evening check.
--- Hmm.
--- Okay somethings wrong.
--- Both are looking pretty droopy.
--- Damnit Ensign!
--- I think I fed these girls too early along with over-watered the soil.
- [19:05]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data:
--- 42% - [CH01 EB1 - Garlic Budder #1]
--- 31% - [CH02 EB1 - Secondary]
--- 36% - [CH03 EB2 - Garlic Budder #2]
--- 41% - [CH04 EB2 - Secondary]
--- Going to let the soil dry out for a day or two before watering again..
--- Will probably go back to watering every other day with mistings on the dry-back days.
- [19:07]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was about half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2gal).
--- While these girls recover, going to lower the light level down a notch. This should help to reduce stress. I think.
- [19:27]: Within the AC Infinity App,
--- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the grow light.
--- Decreased the MAX from 3 to 25
--- The FC-6500 is now utilizing around 204.4W (at intensity 2 out of 10).
- [19:35]: Took a general PPFD reading.
--- Both plants were around 292 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 18.92 mol/m²/d
--- Hopefully next grow week goes a bit better than this one did.
--- [*smokes a bowl]
[END OF WEEK 03]
Very detailed diary. I like ur heater. Something I don't need but definitely want 1 lol..
Look forward to seen how you adapt this to pushing your grows forward.
@gottagrowsometime,
Thanks growmie! Yea, sometimes I can get a bit too detailed, but this is all just for fun!
Been using Ac Infinity's Thermoforge T3 heater for just over 2 weeks and have to say that it's the best! Highly recommend! The unit easily heats a 4x4ft grow tent along with my 10x10ft lung room. Keep in mind that it never snows where I live, but it can get pretty cold in the winter (Southern California - US). What's most impressive is that in combination with the Cloudforge T7, my overall weekly VPD averages have been a lot more stable! Also the day to night temp swings have been greatly reduced (less than 10 degrees/percent difference on the weekly temps/RH averages).
I see you're running Build-A-Soil.. Great company, products, ethics! The dude has a sweet youtube channel as well worth checking out if you haven't. Cheers good luck!
