Introduction - Week 06 Summary -
Ensign's log, stardate 9284.64,
I’m done with this grow round.
This was the last week for these plants.. Not going to terminate them, but going to focus these logs on the next round. Going to reset and will try again with 3 more seeds next week!
Filled the 7 gallon Grassroots fabric pot and sowed some cover crop which started growing after a couple days. Now that there’s some cover crop growing, been misting the mulch daily.
Hopefully round two does better than the first.
Regardless, good and the bad, the grows will continue on!

-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.0°F [26.1°C]
- Humidity: 73.0%
- VPD: 0.90 kPa
- Soil %: [37, 40, 40, 34]
-----------------------------------
- [21:42]: Evening check.
--- Both plants are not looking good.
--- Damnit Ensign..
--- As a beginner, failure is always a possibility and I am quite familiar with it.
--- Not looking good for this grow..
- [21:46]: Misted the top soil of both EarthBoxes with distilled water (~1/2 cup each).
--- Mainly focused on the straw mulch.
- [21:52]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was over half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1.5gal).
Day 02 - Tuesday - 04/09/24 - Total Days: 043
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.4°F [26.3°C]
- Humidity: 74.7%
- VPD: 0.85 kPa
- Soil %: [38, 40, 40, 34]
-----------------------------------
- [05:59]: Early morning check.
--- Going to do a bit of early morning gardening before lights out.
--- Both #1 and #2 look horrible..
--- Damnit Ensign.
--- Well, going to fill the Grassroots fabric pot.
- [06:27]: Filled the 7 gallon fabric pot with the left over soil from the de-mounding.
--- Could not fit all the soil so had to store the rest in an old BuildASoil bag (~10-15 cups).
------ Added 1 cup of BuildASoil Worm Castings
--- Gently tilled the castings into the top soil.
- [06:47]: Time to add some cover crop.
------ Sprinkled 1tbsp of BuildASoil White Clover Cover Crop
------ Sprinkled 1tsp of BuildASoil 12 Seed Cover Crop
--- Gently tilled the seeds into the top soil. Also pressed and buried all the larger seeds.
- [06:58]: Filled a pitcher with 3 cups of distilled water.
--- Added 1/64tsp + Half 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60]
--- Added 1/32tsp + 1/64tsp of Horticultural Aloe
--- Added 1/16tsp + 1/32tsp of Mycrobe Complete
--- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a pump sprayer.
- [07:10]: Misted the top soil of the fabric pot.
--- Focused on wetting the straw mulch as evenly as possible.
--- The soil was completely dry so there was no run off.
--- Need to get a plastic tray soon.
--- Increased the RH a bit higher.
- [09:24]: Within the AC Infinity App,
--- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the humidifier.
--- Decreased the VPD trigger value from 1.0kPa to 0.9kPa
--- A lower VPD will give a higher RH, will adjust as needed.
- [16:19]: Evening check.
--- Now I think the 7 day dry-back was a mistake.
--- I think I under-watered and killed off the microbes.
--- For living soil, pretty sure extreme dry-backs are not good..
--- Okay, I’m done with this grow round..
--- I clearly screwed up the roots system beyond recovery for both plants (‘Shaka.. When the walls fell’).
--- On the positive side, plan to reset next week with 3 more beans!
--- As for the current plants, going to leave. Just going to plant the next round on the opposite side.
- [16:23]: Filled a measuring cup with 5 cups of distilled water.
------ Added 1/32tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract
------ Added 5-6 drops of Superthrive
--- Mixed the solution and poured 3 cups straight in/to a pump sprayer.
--- Misted the solution onto the top soil of both EarthBoxes (~1.5 cups each).
--- Also misted the straw mulch for the fabric pot.
--- Mainly focused on the straw mulch, but also misted the top growth.
--- Nice!
--- Must be doing something right this time because I can see more cover crop sprouting through the mulch!
--- Poured the remaining solution into the fill tubes of each EarthBox (~1 cup each).
- [16:40]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was still pretty full but going to refill anyways.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1gal).
--- Going to increase the RH a bit closer for seedlings..
- [16:52]: Within the AC Infinity App,
--- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the exhaust fan.
--- Increased the Humidity’s HIGH trigger value from 79% to 81%
--- As the cover crop germinates, going to try using cardboard mulch.
- [17:39]: Using a scrap cardboard box and some scissors,
--- Cut two covers which overlapped to cover the straw mulch.
--- Once (or if) the cover crop sprouts, will remove the cardboard covers.
--- Well, enough of this depressing shaka..
--- Planning to pop 3 more beans in a week!
--- This time, going be planting into growbags full of BuildASoil Potting 3.0 soil.
--- Also aside from microbes and wetting agents, just going to mainly feed water only (with and without CaliMagic).
--- [*smokes a bowl]
- [20:00]: Just a really (really) stoned rant..
--- Have I been growing fake beans?
--- Since I’m a beginner grower and my harvests have not been the healthiest, I’ve always assumed the flavor inconsistencies were because of me.
--- I’ve also considered that perhaps the pheno type was just not the one? Or maybe the genetic line was just unstable?
--- But have the genetics I’ve been growing legit?
--- Or have the beans I’ve been popping been fake ‘white labeled’ genetics?
--- Not questioning my current grow because I know that Humboldt Seeds Company is legit.
--- But what about ILGM? Royal Queen Seeds? Or even Seedsman?
--- I dunno,
--- Maybe it’s all just a bunch of internet BS. I really hope so. After-all, everything posted on the internet is authentic and not a scam right?
--- According to the always trusted internet, ‘white-label seeds often come from unknown origins, making it difficult to verify their quality.’
--- Damnit, anyways,
--- Going to just give the benefit of the doubt and just grow on..
--- [*smokes a bowl]
- [21:37]: Got a plastic tray!
--- Ordered a tray earlier online.
--- Surprisingly, by the end of the day, my order was ready for pickup at a local store locker!
--- Placed the new 16in tray under the fabric pot.
--- Hmm. A bit snug. Had to tuck the bottom in.
--- But hey! The 7gal pot fits and is pretty much the exact size as the pot.
--- Might be an issue if I ever need to bottom water, but will be more than adequate for now.
Day 03 - Wednesday - 04/10/24 - Total Days: 044
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.6°F [26.4°C]

-----------------------------------
- [22:10]: Quick night check.
--- Both plants are still droopy, just going to continue on.
- [22:17]: Misted the top soil of both EarthBoxes with distilled water (~1/2 cup each).
--- Mainly focused on the straw mulch.
- [22:22]: Decided to remove the fabric pot’s cardboard mulch covers.
--- Don’t want to smother the cover crop so will let the straw breathe.
- [22:24]: Checked the humidifier.

--- Already over this round and am eager to start the next one.
--- Going to take the last readings before the big reset.
- [17:04]: Took general PPFD readings.
--- Both were around 270 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 17.50 mol/m²/d
--- Not going to change the PPFD levels quite yet, but will lower the light a bit soon.
- [17:08]: Took the weekly height and light distance measurements.
--- #1 was about 6.5" tall.
--- #2 was about 7.5" tall.
--- #1 was about 27" away from the grow light.
--- #2 was about 26" away from the grow light.
- [17:20]: Using a pump sprayer,
--- Misted the top soil of both EarthBoxes with 3 cups of distilled water (about 1.5 cups each).

[END OF WEEK 06]
Very detailed diary. I like ur heater. Something I don't need but definitely want 1 lol..
Look forward to seen how you adapt this to pushing your grows forward.
@gottagrowsometime,
Thanks growmie! Yea, sometimes I can get a bit too detailed, but this is all just for fun!
Been using Ac Infinity's Thermoforge T3 heater for just over 2 weeks and have to say that it's the best! Highly recommend! The unit easily heats a 4x4ft grow tent along with my 10x10ft lung room. Keep in mind that it never snows where I live, but it can get pretty cold in the winter (Southern California - US). What's most impressive is that in combination with the Cloudforge T7, my overall weekly VPD averages have been a lot more stable! Also the day to night temp swings have been greatly reduced (less than 10 degrees/percent difference on the weekly temps/RH averages).
I see you're running Build-A-Soil.. Great company, products, ethics! The dude has a sweet youtube channel as well worth checking out if you haven't. Cheers good luck!
