Introduction - Week 13|06 Summary -
Ensign's log, stardate 9418.52,
Pretty smooth week of growing!
Been top watering the fabric pots while bottom watering the EarthBoxes. Gave a feeding of microbes, aloe, coconut, and saponins. But the rest has been distilled water only.
As far as the 3x3 tent, now have the system fully built and the temperatures and environmental conditions are looking great!
Was originally planning on going perpetual this week. However, decided to participate in the ‘Global Grow Cup!’ The event starts next week so why not? Planning to clone pheno #1 and will be giving it a go! Going fully organic so not planning on winning at all (the winners will most likely all be using some sort of nutrient line). Mainly joining for fun. Whatever happens, happens! I’ll be happy if I can just make it to harvest.
I’m more stoked about finally going perpetual!
Next week officially begins the cloning process!

Day 01 - Monday - 05/27/24 - Total Days: 091
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79.7°F [26.5°C]
- Humidity: 77.3%
- VPD: 0.78 kPa
- Soil %: [29, 31, 36, 35]
-----------------------------------
- [19:38]: Evening check.
--- #1 is looking pretty good! Growth is still green and perky!
--- #2 has grown noticeably larger, but new growth seems a bit funky on her first set of 5-fingered leaves. Could this be deficiency or just ferrigation? I dunno.
--- #3 is growing along and looking great! A bit droopy, but okay.
--- #4 seems to have fully recovered and is looking great! There’s some leaf damage, but new growth looks healthy!
- [19:43]: Checked down EB2’s fill tube.
--- Reservoir was completely dry!
- [19:44]: Poured 4 cups of distilled water down EB1’s fill tube.
--- Poured 2 cups of distilled water down EB2’s fill tube.
- [19:53]: Using a spray bottle,
--- Misted the top growth and straw mulch of all plants with distilled water.
- [19:56]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water.
- [20:12]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data:
--- 29% - [CH01 EB1 - Garlic Budder #1]
--- 30% - [CH02 EB2 - Garlic Budder #2]
--- 36% - [CH03 GFP - Garlic Budder #3]
--- 34% - [CH04 FPT - Garlic Budder #4]
--- Tomorrow is the big cloning day!
--- Plan to finish up the tent in the morning and will set up and plug everything in.
--- Then will begin the cloning process and the beginning of a perpetual cycle! Will also defoliate as well.
--- Going to use the propagation tray and will fill it with pre-moistened BuildASoil 3.0 potting soil.
--- Since I don’t have any rooting hormone but do have aloe plants, plan to use a piece of aloe. The natural salicylic acid from the aloe should help to promote root growth.
--- Then will take cuttings and start cloning away!
--- What can possibly go wrong!?
Day 02 - Tuesday - 05/28/24 - Total Days: 092
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 80.2°F [26.8°C]
- Humidity: 75.8%
- VPD: 0.84 kPa
- Soil %: [29, 30, 36, 33]
-----------------------------------
- [10:08]: Ooo yea! Today is the big day!
--- Going perpetual!
--- The 3x3 veg tent is pretty much fully built. Just need to add some passive vent filters. Will do that a bit later.
- [10:20]: Time to plug in and setup the new veg tent’s controller!
--- Plugged in the main power cords for everything and made sure the Controller 69 Pro detected each component.
--- Also made sure the propagation dome’s controller was plugged in and working.
--- Oh and filled the humidifier with distilled water.
--- Time to set everything up in the App!
- [22:21]: Within the AC Infinity App,
--- Installed the new Controller 69 Pro and renamed each one. Will adjust later.
--- Temporarily turned the light on to tent the LEDs and to make sure they were all working.
- [10:40]: Wow! With the light on, the white floor of the tent looks pretty nice.
--- The CloudRay S6 (Version 2) oscillating fan is not connected to any controllers so will have to adjust it manually. Currently the speed is set to 4 out of 10.
--- Back to the App!
- [10:58]: Within the AC Infinity App,
--- For the Main Tent [4x4] controller,
--- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the humidifier.
--- Increased the VPD target value from 0.9 to 1.0
- [11:15]: For the ‘Veg Tent [3x3],’
--- Created a new ‘Vegetative [18/6]’ Automation Schedule.
--- Set the settings accordingly:
--- For the Grow Light (AC Infinity IonBoard S33):
------ The Mode is temporarily set to ‘Off Mode’
--- Will adjust after cloning is complete.
--- For the Exhaust Fan (AC Infinity CloudLine Lite 6):
------ The Mode to ‘Continuous Auto’
------ The Temperature HIGH trigger’s value is set to 85°F
------ The Humidity HIGH trigger’s value is set to 81%
------ The Minimum/Maximum value is set to 3/8
------ The Temperature buffer value is set to 3°F
------ The Humidity buffer value is set to 3%
--- For the Humidifier (AC Infinity CloudForge T7 - Version 2):
------ The Mode is set to ‘Continuous Target’
------ The VPD target value is set to 1.0kPa
------ The Minimum/Maximum value is set to 0/8
------ The VPD buffer value is set to 0.2kPa
--- For the Heater (AC Infinity ThermoForge T3):
------ The Mode is set to ‘Continuous Target’
------ The Temperature target value is set to 78°F
------ The Minimum/Maximum value is set to 0/8
------ The Temperature buffer value is set to 2°F
--- Of course will adjust these settings as needed
- [11:26]: Checked the controller for readings.
--- Nice! Everything seems to be functioning within established parameters and the environment within the tent seems to be stabilizing.
--- Going perpetual!
--- [*smokes a bowl]
- [14:11]: I think I’m going to wait another week before cloning.
--- Deciding on participating in the ‘Global Grow Cup’ 2024 competition!
--- Since the grow off begins in a few days (grows must begin from June 1-31), might as well give it a try.
--- Basically it’s a global solo cup grow off!
--- Both seeds and clones are okay. Also both photoperiods and autoflowers are allowed (I’m going to enter a photoperiod clone).
--- The maximum size of the container cannot exceed 16oz (which is your standard solo cup size).
--- The seed or clone has to be started between June 1st-30th,
--- Several YouTube influencers have been promoting this grow off and just thought it might be fun to try!
--- Don’t plan on winning at all, but think it will be fun just to participate. I’ll be happy if the plant simply survives through the whole process. Also I’m pretty sure since I’m using organic inputs, my chances are even less in a smaller container (more soil is better for organic growing, I think).
--- This will also give the plants another week to get larger before the defoliation/cloning.
--- Definitely going to try to clone #1 and #4. Also will be topping for the first time.
--- I doubt I’ll be able to clone #2, but if #3 gets bigger, I might be able to take a cutting. Or maybe top?
--- Also will give me more time to dial in the 3x3 veg environment.
--- Just going to continue to research cloning and prep for the event! Both stoked and nervous since this will also be the first time trying to flower in a solo cup.
- [16:01]: Evening check.
--- #1 is just growing out very nicely! out! Wow! Just keep bushing out girl!
--- #2 is looking funky, but is clearly growing in size. Still not giving up on you!
--- #3 is Looking a bit droopy, but looking green and healthy!
--- #4 is looking great! She is just growing and is about as tall as #1, but not as wide. Still very impressed with growth!
--- Hmm. With the exception of #4, all plant leaves seem to be tacoing a bit. Could be an environmental issue? Or maybe too much wind? Or a humidity problem?
--- Decided to adjust the height of one of the oscillating fans (left corner).
- [16:03]: Raised the fan up a bit.
--- The fan is now about 6-10” higher.
- [16:09]: Checked down both fill tubes.
--- Both reservoirs were completely dry!
- [16:25]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data:
--- 29% - [CH01 EB1 - Garlic Budder #1]
--- 29% - [CH02 EB2 - Garlic Budder #2]
--- 36% - [CH03 GFP - Garlic Budder #3]
--- 33% - [CH04 FPT - Garlic Budder #4]
- [16:27]: Poured 6 cups of distilled water down EB1’s fill tube.
--- Poured 2 cups of distilled water down EB2’s fill tube.
- [16:42]: Checked the humidifiers which were still pretty full.
--- Refilled the humidifiers with distilled water.
--- For the 3x3 tent,
- [17:07]: Decided to rotate the IonBoard S33 grow light 90 degrees.
--- Nice! Now the cord is facing closer to the vent and the control knob for the light is easier to read.
--- Time to add some passive vents.
- [19:42]: Made a pair of passive air filters using some 6” ducting, carbon filter material, rubber bands and tape.
--- Installed both vents with one on each side (bottom of the tent).
--- The new veg tent has been completed and is ready for plants!
--- Going to be another week before plants go into this tent.
--- Getting hyped!
Day 03 - Wednesday - 05/29/24 - Total Days: 093
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 80.9°F [27.2°C]
- Humidity: 74.8%
- VPD: 0.89 kPa
- Soil %: [29, 29, 35, 32]
-----------------------------------
- [10:19]: Decided to reduce the exhaust fan’s minimum speed.
--- Within the AC Infinity App,
--- For the Main Tent [4x4] controller,
--- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the exhaust fan.
------ Decreased the Minimum value from 3 to 2
--- Hopefully the lower speed will keep the humidity inside the tent a bit longer.
- [21:53]: Evening check.
--- #1 is just raging! Nodes are just branching out and exploding with growth!
--- Nice! #2 is getting there. Top growth looks weird, but just gonna grow on!
--- #3 is looking quite nice and getting bigger!
--- #4 is growing along nicely and looking great!
- [21:55]: Checked down both fill tubes.
--- Both reservoirs were completely dry!
- [22:01]: Poured 6 cups of distilled water down EB1’s fill tube.
--- Poured 3 cups of distilled water down EB2’s fill tube.
- [22:17]: Checked the humidifiers.
--- Refilled the humidifiers with distilled water.
- [23:00]: Decided to temporarily increase the VPD in the 3x3 tent.
--- Within the AC Infinity App,
--- For the Veg Tent [3x3] controller,
------ Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the humidifier.
------ Increased the VPD target value from 1.0kPa to 1.5kPa
--- Nice! A higher VPD means less humidity.
--- Not going to have plants inside for a good week so don’t need to waste the humidifier water.
--- Will set the VPD back next week before taking clones!
Day 04 - Thursday - 05/30/24 - Total Days: 094
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 80.9°F [27.2°C]
- Humidity: 74.6%
- VPD: 0.90 kPa
- Soil %: [28, 29, 37, 31]
-----------------------------------
- [12:39]: It’s official, got my ticket!
--- I’m now a participant of the first ever global grow cup event!
--- Based on what I’ve learned from #4 (which was started in a solo cup), I have an idea for growing and flowering in a solo cup.
--- After reviewing the rules for a bit, I think I’m going to root my clone in a smaller container 5-8oz for veg and transplant into the 16oz solo cup before flipping to flower.
--- I couldn’t find any rules forbidding transplants. (will send an email asking).
--- Also since roots cannot go beyond the container and root pruning is an immediate disqualification, I figure transplanting would be a good way to go. Might even need to line the bottom of the cup with a net so roots won’t grow through.
- [19:24]: Evening check.
--- #1 is just a beast! She is bushing and stretching out! Wow!
--- #2 is growing! Sort of. I think.
--- #3 is looking good!
--- #4 is growing along and looking great! She has pretty much reached the sides of the 5-gallon fabric pot. Nice!
- [19:27]: Checked down both fill tubes.
--- EB1's reservoir was completely dry!
--- EB2's reservoir still had a bit of water.
- [19:28]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data:
--- 29% - [CH01 EB1 - Garlic Budder #1]
--- 29% - [CH02 EB2 - Garlic Budder #2]
--- 34% - [CH03 GFP - Garlic Budder #3]
--- 29% - [CH04 FPT - Garlic Budder #4]
- [19:47]: Took general PPFD readings.
--- #1 was around 374 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 24.24 mol/m²/d
--- #2 was around 268 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 17.37 mol/m²/d
--- #3 was around 311 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 20.15 mol/m²/d
--- #4 was around 339 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 21.97 mol/m²/d
- [19:57]: Took the weekly height and light distance measurements.
--- #1 was about 17" tall.
--- #2 was about 7" tall.
--- #3 was about 7.5" tall.
--- #4 was about 12.5" tall.
--- #1 was about 12" away from the grow light.
--- #2 was about 23" away from the grow light.
--- #3 was about 20.25" away from the grow light.
--- #4 was about 17" away from the grow light.
--- Time to water!
--- Going to feed some microbes, aloe, coconut, and saponins.
--- Also going with a diluted ratio.
- [20:08]: Filled a pitcher with 8 cups of distilled water.
--- Added 1/32tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60]
--- Added 1/4tsp of Horticultural Aloe
--- Added 1/4tsp of Horticultural Coconut
--- Added 1/4tsp of Mycrobe Complete
--- Mixed the solution and poured 4 cups straight into a pump sprayer.
- [20:17]: Misted the top soil for #3.
--- Focused on wetting the straw mulch as evenly as possible.
--- Also misted the straw mulch for #1 and #2 a bit.
- [20:33]: Poured the rest of the solution into the pump sprayer (~4 cups).
--- Misted the top soil for #4.
--- Focused on wetting the straw mulch as evenly as possible.
--- Also misted the straw mulch for #1 and #2 a bit.
- [20:45]: Checked the humidifiers.
--- Refilled the 4x4’s humidifier with distilled water.

- Temps: 80.5°F [26.9°C]
- Humidity: 74.5%
- VPD: 0.89 kPa
- Soil %: [29, 31, 39, 31]
-----------------------------------
- []: Quick morning check!
--- #1 is looking incredible! She is perky and looking happy!
--- #4 is also happy and just growing along!
--- Even the plants in the back (the original #1 and #2 phenos) are growing along and looking like they will make it to flower. Have not been logging, but been training and bonsaiing the new growth to keep them low. If growth continues to get better, may try to root a cutting or two on cloning day.
--- Looking good girls!
- [20:33]: Evening check.
--- Wow! #1 is starting to get too tall! She is getting a bit close to the light!
--- #2 for some reason has started to really take off with growth! Still a bit funky, but growing!
--- #3 is looking great! She is perky and getting larger!
--- #4 looking good and healthy! Although she may need a watering soon.
- [20:47]: Checked down both fill tubes.
--- Both reservoirs still had a bit of water but were mostly dry.
- [20:56]: Poured 4 cups of distilled water down EB1’s fill tube.
--- Poured 2 cups of distilled water down EB2’s fill tube.
- [21:58]: Checked the humidifiers.
--- Refilled the 4x4’s humidifier with distilled water.
--- [*smokes a bowl]
--- An update on the Global Grow Cup,
--- Got an email reply today about transplanting.
--- Transplants are allowed as long as the final container is a 16oz container (same container as the first submission).
--- Also asked about ticket numbers and got a response saying that it’s my order number (so ticket# 9724089149 has to be written on the 16oz solo cup). They also seemed to have updated the site with additional submission rules which includes the mentioning of transplants along with the order number.
--- Now that I’m a participant, there are two submissions that I need to do before the 30th of this month!
--- Need to make a video confirming that my container is 16oz. Since I’m growing in a solo cup, this should not be an issue. Going to film myself filling a marked cup with 2 cups of soil. This will be the cup that I’ll be transplanting into.
--- Once this is done, I’ll begin the process of taking a cutting from #1 to root in a smaller 5-8oz container of soil.
--- Never cloned before so what can go wrong right!?
--- [*smokes a bowl]
--- Anyways,
--- For watering, going with straight distilled water along with the occasional feeding of microbes, aloe, coconut, and saponins.
--- Will probably root and veg for about 3 weeks.
--- Before flipping to flower, plan to prune the larger fan leaves and transplant into the marked 16oz solo cup.
--- Hopefully transplanting will help the flowering phase of growth.
--- Might even top dress?
- [22:25]: Another grow board wipe!
--- Looking back over the past 5 weeks,
--- Growth has completely turned around. Even the original two plants in the back are looking good and growing along surprisingly well!
--- A lot has happened, a lot more is about to begin!
--- Learned more about watering in a solo cup.
--- Also expanded my grow and am about to start a new frontier of growing! Next week, going perpetual!
--- Also hyped to start the global grow cup at the same time!

--- Onwards Ensign.. Engage!
[END OF WEEK 13|06]
Very detailed diary. I like ur heater. Something I don't need but definitely want 1 lol..
Look forward to seen how you adapt this to pushing your grows forward.
@gottagrowsometime,
Thanks growmie! Yea, sometimes I can get a bit too detailed, but this is all just for fun!
Been using Ac Infinity's Thermoforge T3 heater for just over 2 weeks and have to say that it's the best! Highly recommend! The unit easily heats a 4x4ft grow tent along with my 10x10ft lung room. Keep in mind that it never snows where I live, but it can get pretty cold in the winter (Southern California - US). What's most impressive is that in combination with the Cloudforge T7, my overall weekly VPD averages have been a lot more stable! Also the day to night temp swings have been greatly reduced (less than 10 degrees/percent difference on the weekly temps/RH averages).
I see you're running Build-A-Soil.. Great company, products, ethics! The dude has a sweet youtube channel as well worth checking out if you haven't. Cheers good luck!
