Introduction - Week 21|14 Summary -
Ensign's log, stardate 9571.23,
Another scorching yet simple week of growing!
Been hotter than summer on Vulcan! Temps have continued to be an issue, but growing along the best I can.
Since I’m almost certain the issue has been temps for the flowering tent, decided to lower the light intensity even further. Now the canopy’s PPFD is closer to seedling levels. So far, not noticing much change in the heat, so my increase this back later.
Also submitted my 3rd entry for the GGC2024 competition! I’ve actually been quite surprised with her healthy growth! Blooming in a solo cup, she’s the smallest flowering plant in the 4x4, yet for some perplexing reason, is the heathiest one of them all.
In stark contrast to the roasting 4x4 growth, the vegging plants in the 3x3 have been thriving! Had to top the plants again. These girls are just exploding with growth! For the next cycle, pretty sure I’m going to try scrogging. Getting more and more stoked for the next cycle vegging in the 3x3 tent. Perpetual is really the way to grow!
Steady as she grows Ensign!

Day 01 - Monday - 07/22/24 - Total Days: 147
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~01:00]
- Temps: 85.8°F [29.9°C]
- Humidity: 71.0%
- VPD: 1.20 kPa
- Soil %: [42, 31, 34, 37]
-----------------------------------
- [21:12]: Night check on the 4x4 flower tent.
--- Temps are still out of control. Been baking hot in the grow room.
--- Regardless of the heat, the garden is looking incredible!
--- The GGC2024 plant is looking healthy and green!
- [21:14]: Checked down both fill tubes.
--- Both reservoirs were completely dry!
- [21:17]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data:
--- 42% - [CH01 EB1 - Garlic Budder #1]
--- 31% - [CH02 EB2 - Garlic Budder #2]
--- 34% - [CH03 GFP - Garlic Budder #3]
--- 34% - [CH04 FPT - Garlic Budder #4]
--- 34% - [CH05 FPT - Garlic Budder #1]
--- 26% - [CH06 FPT - Original Garlic Budder #2]
--- 31% - [CH07 FPT - Garlic Budder #4]
--- 24% - [CH08 SCP - Global Grow Cup 2024 #1]
- [21:30]: Poured 2 cups of distilled water down EB1’s fill tube.
--- Poured 2 cups of distilled water down EB2’s fill tube.
--- I’m still completely baffled on the health of the GGC2024 plant. Out of all plants growing, she is by far the healthiest. But she is also flowering in the smallest container (solo cup). She is growing in the same environment, but is receiving really low PPFD.
--- Maybe the light levels are too high?
--- Going to lower the light level a bit. But before adjusting the environment.
- [21:33]: Decided to raise the GGC2024 plant up a bit more.
--- Using more upside-down containers, raised the plant up so the canopy was generally the same as the rest of the flowering phenos.
--- Now that all the plants are generally at the same canopy height,
- [21:43]: Within the AC Infinity App,
--- For the Main Tent [4x4] controller,
--- Adjusted the 'Flower [12/12]' Schedule for the grow light.
------ Decreased the MAX from 3 to 2
--- Adjusted the 'Flower [12/12]' Schedule for the exhaust fan.
------ Decreased the Humidity’s HIGH trigger value from 71% to 69%
--- Adjusted the 'Flower [12/12]' Schedule for the humidifier.
------ Increased the VPD target value from 1.4kPa to 1.5kPa
--- The FC-6500 is now utilizing around 204.0W (at intensity 2 out of 10).
--- Will take PPFD readings later.
- [22:07]: Took the total weight of the GGC2024 (a #1 pheno).
--- She weighed 359.5g
--- It’s been 2 days since her last watering.
--- Going for a general dry weight of 360g before watering to around 460g
--- Time to water!
--- While on a scale,
--- Gently misted her straw mulch with distilled water.
--- Tried to keep the top growth dry.
--- Misted 5-10 sprays. Waited a few seconds, then misted again.
- [22:33]: Repeated this process until the cup weighed 490.5g
--- Went pretty heavy for this watering. Trying to find the maximum field saturation.
--- There was the tiniest bit of run off.
--- Marked the watering date on the side of the cup.
--- Placed her back into the tent.
- [22:54]: Checked on #3 and the vegging clones in the 3x3 veg tent,
--- Growth is continuing to look incredible!
--- Heat is definitely not affecting growth, if anything they look happier with the increased temps.
--- Solo cups looked great and did not need watering.
- [22:59]: Filled a pump sprayer with 4 cups of distilled water.
------ Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60]
--- Gave the sprayer a good shake before spraying the entire solution onto the original #2’s straw mulch.
--- Focused mainly on the straw.
- [23:09]: Checked the humidifiers.
--- Refilled the humidifiers with distilled water as needed.
Day 02 - Tuesday - 07/23/24 - Total Days: 148
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~01:00]

- Humidity: 70.7%
- VPD: 1.22 kPa
- Soil %: [42, 31, 33, 31]
-----------------------------------
- [19:07]: Night check on the 4x4 flower tent.
--- Garden is toasty but growing along.
--- Completely hyped on how the GGC2024 plant is growing!
--- Compared to the rest of the flowering phenos, her growth looks green with no leaf stress (there are two of the original clone leaves which are turning yellow, but the rest of the growth is green).
--- She is now receiving the same PPFD levels as the rest of the plants and is growing in the same environment. Completely perplexed on what is keeping her healthy.
--- If it is the light level was the issue, then I hope to see some growth improvement soon.
--- Unfortunately lowering the light level did not seem to lower the temps. If growth does not improve in a week or so, I may increase it back.
--- Anyways,
- [19:09]: Checked down both fill tubes.
--- Both reservoirs were completely dry!
- [19:12]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data:

------ Added 1/2tsp of Horticultural Coconut
--- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a pump sprayer.
- [19:45]: Misted #4’s straw mulch,
--- Focused on wetting the straw as evenly as possible.
- [19:47]: Checked on #3 and the vegging clones in the 3x3 veg tent,
--- Ooo yea!
--- The vegging ladies are looking incredible!
--- Wow! The canopy growth has pretty much completely filled the 3x3 tent.
--- Now thinking about scrogging the next grow cycle. In theory, all I would need to do is place them in the 4x4 tent and place the scrog.
--- Anyways,
- [19:49]: Took the total weight of the GGC2024 (a #1 pheno).
--- She weighed 230.6g
--- Woah! It’s been 23 days since her initial watering.

--- Marked the watering date on the side of the cup.
--- Placed her back into the tent.
- [20:17]: Repeated this process for the rest of the cups that needed watering.
--- Watered two more phenos (#2 and OG#1).
--- Tried to keep the saturated weight around 325-330g
- [20:22]: Filled a pump sprayer with 4 cups of distilled water.

------ Decreased the Temp target value from 78°F to 75°F
--- Hmm. Probably should have done this a few weeks ago (Damnit Ensign).
--- Oops. Anyways,
--- During this summer cycle, I doubt temps will get colder than 75°F, but hopefully this will prevent additional ambient heat.
--- Plan to eventually get a Terraform 7, but until then (probably next year), just going to deal with what I have.
--- I’m just happy the vegging tent is growing along perfectly! Gotta keep on growing.

--- Going to bottom water some CaliMagic.
- [19:36]: Using premixed CalMag water (1tsp of CaliMagic to 1 gal distilled water),
--- Diluted the solution with distilled water (1:1 ratio).
--- Poured 3 cups of the diluted solution down EB1’s fill tube.
--- Poured 2 cups of the diluted solution down EB2’s fill tube.
- [19:46]: Took the total weight of the GGC2024 (a #1 pheno).
--- She weighed 382g
--- It’s been 2 days since her last watering.
--- Could probably wait another day, but going to water now to see if it helps.
--- While on a scale,
--- Gently misted her straw mulch with the same diluted CalMag solution.
--- Tried to keep the top growth dry.
--- Misted 5-10 sprays. Waited a few seconds, then misted again.
- [20:03]: Repeated this process until the cup weighed 493.1g
--- There was no runoff.
--- Marked the watering date on the side of the cup.
--- Placed her back into the tent.
- [20:11]: Checked on #3 and the vegging clones in the 3x3 tent,
--- Looking great ladies!
--- The growth is raging in the veg tent and has continued to verify that temps are an issue in the 4x4 flower tent.
- [20:16]: Took the total weight of an original #2 pheno.
--- She weighed 200g
--- It’s been 4 days since her last watering.
--- Time to water!
--- While on a scale,
--- Gently misted her straw mulch with distilled water.
--- Tried to keep the top growth dry.
--- Misted 5-10 sprays. Waited a few seconds, then misted again.
- [20:30]: Repeated this process until the cup weighed 343.2g
--- There was no runoff.
--- Marked the watering date on the side of the cup.
--- Placed her back into the tent.
- [20:42]: Filled a pump sprayer with 4 cups of distilled water.
------ Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60]
--- Gave the sprayer a good shake before spraying the entire solution onto #4’s straw mulch.
--- Focused mainly on the straw.
- [20:45]: Checked the humidifiers.
--- Refilled the humidifiers with distilled water as needed.
--- Another week done!
--- I will grow healthy plants! Unfortunately, this grow cycle is not one of them.
--- Even the GGC2024 plant is showing the same leaf stress. I hope the added magnesium and calcium will help.
--- Still a bit confused on what is happening in the flower tent versus the veg tent (one is thriving while the other is struggling).
--- I’m pretty sure it’s the high temps, but with 2-3 weeks before harvest, just going to keep growing on!
[END OF WEEK 21|14]
Very detailed diary. I like ur heater. Something I don't need but definitely want 1 lol..
Look forward to seen how you adapt this to pushing your grows forward.
@gottagrowsometime,
Thanks growmie! Yea, sometimes I can get a bit too detailed, but this is all just for fun!
Been using Ac Infinity's Thermoforge T3 heater for just over 2 weeks and have to say that it's the best! Highly recommend! The unit easily heats a 4x4ft grow tent along with my 10x10ft lung room. Keep in mind that it never snows where I live, but it can get pretty cold in the winter (Southern California - US). What's most impressive is that in combination with the Cloudforge T7, my overall weekly VPD averages have been a lot more stable! Also the day to night temp swings have been greatly reduced (less than 10 degrees/percent difference on the weekly temps/RH averages).
I see you're running Build-A-Soil.. Great company, products, ethics! The dude has a sweet youtube channel as well worth checking out if you haven't. Cheers good luck!
