Introduction - Week 07|00 Summary -
Ensign's log, stardate 9303.77,
This was a reset week and the beginning for round two!
Germinated 3 more seeds of Garlic Budder! Within 24hrs, two seeds sprouted! By the end of the 3rd day, had 2 new seedlings!
Still have the original two plants, but planted across from them. Also one seedling is growing in a 7-gallon fabric pot (first time trying to grow in a fabric pot).
Unlike the first round, these beans were planted into BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil (instead of BuildASoil Light). Since these seeds were started in a pocket of all-in-one super soil, for this round, going to try to hold off on any fish fertilizer feedings for a few weeks and will mainly feed water only.
One seed (#2) did not sprout so plan to germinate a replacement one next week.
Just gotta keep on growing!

-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 79°F [26.1°C]
- Humidity: 76.1%
- VPD: 0.80 kPa
- Soil %: [38, 38, 39, 32]
-----------------------------------
- [06:17]: Good morning!
--- New week, new grow!
--- Today is the big reset!
--- Popping more ‘Garlic Budder’ by ‘Humboldt Seed Company!’
--- This cultivar is a cross of ‘GMO (Garlic, Mushrooms, Onions)’ and ‘Fortune Cookies’ with further self-backcrossing for stability.
--- As far as growth structure, these genetics are 70% indica dominant.
--- Have 9 seeds left (out of 11).
--- Gonna try to germinate three more.
--- As far as my personal seed germination count, this will be attempts #64-66.
--- Going with the 'Cotton Pad' method again.
--- In another room (my bathroom),
- [06:23]: Placed 9 fresh cotton pads on top of some clean plastic wrap.
--- Using a spray bottle, Misted the top of each pad with 2 sprays of straight distilled water.
--- Selected three random seeds of ‘Garlic Budder’ (‘Humboldt Seed Company’).
- [06:25]: Placed each seed onto a freshly wet pad.
--- Gently wiped each seed with their pad.
- [06:28]: Carefully placed each seed onto a fresh cotton pad. Discarded the used pads.
--- Then covered the top of each seed with the remaining wet cotton pads.
--- Misted the top of each stack of pads with 4 more sprays of distilled water.
- [06:30]: Placed each cotton pad stack into a fresh Ziploc bag (1quart bag).
--- Misted the inside of each bag with 2 sprays of distilled water.
--- Folded each bag in half.
--- Did not fully seal the bags (left a corner open).
- [06:33]: Placed each bag onto the heating mat.
--- Covered the bags with a black opaque plastic container.
--- Then covered the container with a towel and a foam cover.
--- Covered the foam with another towel.
- [06:39]: The heating mat's thermostat is set to a warm 85°F
--- The mat was pre-heated (the night before) and was already at 86.3°F
--- Unlike last time, going to check on the cotton pads daily instead of after two.
--- Will also be sprouting in growbags filled with BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil.
--- As far as feeding, not going to veg feed as early as I did.
--- [*smokes a bowl]
--- Let the grow begin! Again!
- [22:27]: Quick evening check.
--- Going to lower the light down a bit to increase the PPFD closer to 300 μmol/m²/s
--- Using the ratchet ropes, I gently lowered the FC-6500 a few inches closer to the plants.
- [22:44]: Took general PPFD readings.
--- The area above the EarthBoxes’ mulch was around 296 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 19.18 mol/m²/d
--- Going to let the soil dry out a bit while I wait for the seeds to sprout.
- [22:53]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was still pretty full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1gal).
--- Plan to check on the new seeds for tap roots tomorrow!
Day 02 - Tuesday - 04/16/24 - Total Days: 050
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 80.4°F [26.9°C]
- Humidity: 73.6%
- VPD: 0.94 kPa
- Soil %: [45, 42, 35, 39]
-----------------------------------
- [16:21]: Okay! Time to check on the beans!
--- It's been over a day since the seeds were placed on the cotton pads.
--- Carefully removed each pad from their bags.
--- Then flipped over the top pads.
--- Nice!
--- Two out of the three seeds have fully sprouted and have tap roots!
--- One seed was still un-sprouted.
--- Going to plant all three!
--- Placed the pads back on the seeds and returned them to their bags before stacking them on the heating mat.
--- The heating mat temp was at 81.3°F
- [16:35]: Time to plant the seeds!
--- Temporarily removed all four Ecowitt soil moisture sensors from both EarthBoxes and set them in a cup of water for later.
--- Spread the straw mulch aside to expose the top soil.
--- Dug a hole into each EarthBox.
--- Also dug a hole into the Grassroots fabric pot.
- [17:22]: Placed the excess soil into an empty 5 gallon bucket (stored the excess soil in a bag).
--- Made the holes a bit bigger than usual. Going to be filling in a bit of BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil
--- Going to be planting straight into paper bags filled with BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil.
- [17:31]: Using scissors, I trimmed 3 small paper bags down to ~3.5" tall.
--- Since I'm using a complete soil blend which will have everything the plants need, not going to mix in any worm castings or additional amendments.
--- Also, aside from microbes and CalMag, going to try to feed water only.
- [17:45]: Took each paper bag and filled them with 2 solo cups (~4 cups) of BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil.
--- Time to prep each hole with some fresh soil.
--- Also will inoculate with some Great White and worm castings.
- [18:05]: For each hole,
------ Added 4 cups of BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil
------ Added 1 cup of BuildASoil Worm Castings
------ Sprinkled in 1/4tsp of Great White
--- Gently mixed everything evenly.
--- Gave each hole a misting of distilled water (~20 sprays).
--- Time to make the wetting solution!
--- Going with a slightly diluted ratio.
- [18:17]: Filled a measuring cup with 3 cups of distilled water.
------ Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract [60]
------ Added 1/32tsp of Horticultural Aloe
------ Added 1/16tsp of Mycrobe Complete
--- Mixed the solution and poured 1/2 cup into straight into a spray bottle.
- [18:27]: Placed a grow bag into each hole and gave the top a firm press.
--- Also made sure to fill in the sides with BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil (~4 cups).
--- Pressed the sides in firmly.
- [18:45]: Misted the top soil of each grow bag with the 1/2 cup of wetting solution evenly.
--- Not making any holes. Made a shallow and wide indentation into the center area of each grow bag.
- [18:52]: Inoculated each grow bag with some Beauveria Bassiana.
------ Sprinkled 1/16tsp of Beauveria Bassiana Plus Powder into the center of each indentation.
--- Time to plant the sprouted seeds!
- [18:57]: Using a clean dab tool, I scooped the first seed off of the pad and placed her on top of the inoculated area with the tap root sideways.
--- Sprinkled and covered the seed with a pinch of fresh BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil.
--- Misted the top with 15 sprays of distilled water.
--- Done with #1!
- [19:02]: Repeated this process for #2.
--- Decided to plant the un-sprouted seed into the second EarthBox.
- [19:11]: Time for #3!
--- Planted her into the Grassroots fabric pot.
- [19:27]: Spread the surrounding straw mulch back to cover the exposed soil.
--- Using some BuildASoil Organic Barley Straw, I evenly covered the top soil of each grow bag.
--- Then misted the straw of both bags with the rest of the wetting solution in the bottle (~45-55 sprays each).
- [19:33]: Refilled the spray bottle with 1/2cup of the wetting solution.
--- Misted the top of each grow bag with the solution (~25-35 sprays each).
- [19:43]: Placed the Ecowitt soil sensors back into each EarthBoxes.
--- Also replaced the batteries.
--- Placed the secondary sensor for EB2 into the Grassroots fabric pot.
--- Made sure to rename the sensor IDs.
------ CH01 EB1 - Garlic Budder #1
------ CH02 EB1 - Secondary
------ CH03 EB2 - Garlic Budder #2
------ CH04 GFP - Garlic Budder #3
- [19:48]: Poured the remaining 2 cups of the wetting solution straight into a pump a sprayer.
---Added 1 cup of distilled water to the remaining wetting solution.
- [19:52]: Misted the solution onto the straw mulch for both EarthBoxes.
--- Sprayed around each grow bag.
--- Also misted the straw mulch for the Grassroots fabric pot.
- [19:59]: Vacuumed the tent's floor.
--- Also wiped the floor with paper towels and distilled water.
--- Time for the domes!
- [20:08]: Misted each humidity dome with a bit of distilled water before covering each grow bag.
--- Vents are fully closed.
- [20:10]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was still pretty full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1gal).
--- Done!
--- Germinated seeds have been planted!
--- [*smokes a bowl]
--- Still not exactly sure what happened to the first two seeds,
--- Looking back at the logs, I’m pretty sure the initial damage was caused by the fertilizer feeding and Agsil16H soil drench (damnit Ensign).
--- Then the damage was further compounded by over-watering and under-watering?
--- Regardless, growing on and trying again (now on seed attempt #64-66).
--- Since these germinated seeds are growing in a pocket of BuildASoil 3.0 Potting soil, aside from microbes and saponin, going to try to feed water only.
--- Since distilled water is completely sterile and devoid of minerals, will also use CaliMagic as well for CalMag.
--- Once the seeds fully sprout, plan to feed straight distilled water for most of the week.
--- Still plan to use microbes and saponins along with CalMag. Also am considering an occasional foliar of coconut and aloe. But for the most part, distilled water only.
Day 03 - Wednesday - 04/17/24 - Total Days: 051
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 80.0°F [26.7°C]
- Humidity: 76.8%
- VPD: 0.80 kPa
- Soil %: [37, 29, 35, 33]
-----------------------------------
- [21:46]: Evening check.
--- Ooo yea!
--- We have sprouts!
--- Both #1 and #3 have fully sprouted and are looking great!
--- As expected, #2 has no signs of sprouts.
- [21:52]: Misted each humidity dome (3 sprays).
--- Also misted the top of each grow bag 5 sprays of distilled water.
--- Fully opened the vents for both #1 and #3.
- [22:00]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was over half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1.5gal).
--- If #2 does not sprout by the end of the week, will try to pop another bean.
--- But wow these genetics are fast!
--- Both #1 and #3 have set a personal record for the fastest sprouts from seed, It’s only been 3 days since the seeds were placed onto the cotton pads and they’re already fully sprouted!
--- Plan to give the usual IPM spraying of Tweetmint soon.
--- Don’t frack this up (again) Ensign!
Day 04 - Thursday - 04/18/24 - Total Days: 052
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 80.1°F [26.7°C]
- Humidity: 77.0%
- VPD: 0.80 kPa
- Soil %: [36, 29, 34, 33]
-----------------------------------
- [09:08]: Morning check.
--- Nice! Looking good!
--- Both #1 and #3 are looking greener and happy!
--- Still no sign of #2.
--- Going to inoculate each grow bag with some Tweetmint.
--- Usually I spray because of an over population of soil mites, but this one’s more for a prevention rather than a treatment.
- [09:11]: Filled a measuring cup with 1 cup of distilled water.
------ Added 4mL of Tweetmint Enzyme Plant Wash
--- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle.
--- Misted each sprouted seedling and grow bag (5 sprays).
--- Also misted the straw mulch of both EarthBoxes along with the fabric pot.
--- Discarded the rest of the solution.
--- Great!
--- No mites and initial seedling growth looks healthy!
--- So far so good!
--- Well it’s always good until it isn’t.
--- Steady as she grows Ensign.
- [11:00]: Nice! Received my order from Hazy Roots!
--- Got a 6” passive vent cover!
--- Got the model with the pass-through cable cover.
--- The construction feels pretty sturdy.
--- This is not a bad thing, but the vent cover is clearly a 3D-printed product.
--- Also the black cable cover is made of plastic (thought it was going to be rubber).
--- The sponge filters are also quite air restrictive.
--- Going to make a slight adjustment and will replace the original filters with thinner carbon ones.
- [11:05]: Using some extra carbon filter material and a pair of scissors,
--- I cut out a new filter to the same shape as the original sponge one.
--- Perfect!
--- Will try the new cover out later on tonight!
- [16:34]: Evening check.
--- Nice! Both seedlings are looking green and happy!
--- So far so good.
- [16:40]: Took the weekly height and light distance measurements.
--- #1 was about 1.25" tall.
--- #3 was about 1.5" tall.
--- #1 was about 29" away from the grow light.
--- #3 was about 26.25" away from the grow light.
- [16:55]: Took general PPFD readings.
--- #1 was around 284 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 18.40 mol/m²/d
--- #3 was around 295 μmol/m²/s which gives a DLI of 19.12 mol/m²/d
- [16:59]: Misted each humidity dome (3 sprays).
--- Also misted the top of each grow bag 5 sprays of distilled water.
- [17:02]: Time to swap out the passive air vent!
--- After a bit of tinkering, managed to remove the old the vent and installed the new one (by Hazy Roots).
--- Broke 3 of the plastic teeth on the cable cover and had to use the spare one.
--- Ended up using both covers. The broken one is facing the exterior of the tent.
--- Regardless of the minor issue, the new passive vent cover definitely frees up more space inside the tent.
--- Great!
- [17:26]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was about half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1.5gal).
Day 05 - Friday - 04/19/24 - Total Days: 053
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 80.3°F [26.8°C]
- Humidity: 77.1%
- VPD: 0.80 kPa
- Soil %: [36, 29, 34, 33]
-----------------------------------
- [21:52]: Quick evening check.
--- Both seedlings are looking sort of lime green, but still good!
- [21:54]: Misted each humidity dome.
--- Also misted the top of each grow bag with about 10 sprays of distilled water.
- [21:57]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was still full. Did not refill.
Day 06 - Saturday - 04/20/24 - Total Days: 054
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]
- Temps: 80.3°F [26.8°C]
- Humidity: 77.2%
- VPD: 0.79 kPa
- Soil %: [36, 28, 34, 33]
-----------------------------------
- [20:23]: Evening check.
--- Hmm. Both seedlings are looking sort of stunted.
--- The new leaves are looking lime and off.
--- Maybe there’s too much humidity?
- [20:27]: Decided to remove the humidity domes for both seedlings.
--- Misted the top of the grow bag with about 10 sprays of distilled water.
- [20:32]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was just under half full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~2.5gal).
--- Increased the tent’s ambient air-exchange a bit.
- [20:57]: Within the AC Infinity App,
--- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the exhaust fan.
--- Increased the MIN level from 2 to 3
Day 07 - Sunday - 04/21/24 - Total Days: 055
-----------------------------------
Daily Averages [~23:00]

- VPD: 0.80 kPa
- Soil %: [35, 28, 33, 33]
-----------------------------------
- [19:21]: Evening check.
--- Growth is looking sort of better. I think.
--- Both seedlings are still looking lime, but still growing.
--- I really want to water, but I think I shouldn’t.
- [19:26]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data:
--- 35% - [CH01 EB1 - Garlic Budder #1]
--- 28% - [CH02 EB1 - Secondary]
--- 33% - [CH03 EB2 - Garlic Budder #2]
--- 33% - [CH04 GFP - Garlic Budder #3]
- [19:34]: Using a spray bottle filled with some diluted premixed CalMag water (1/2tsp of CaliMagic to 1 gal distilled water),
--- Slightly misted the top growth of both growbags (~3 sprays each).
--- Mainly focused on the leaves.
- [19:38]: Checked the humidifier.
--- Tank was still pretty full.
--- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water (~1gal).
--- Well growth can definitely be better,
--- Feels like I screwed this up again, but am still hopeful that these girls will make it.
--- Onwards to next week Ensign.
[END OF WEEK 07|00]
Very detailed diary. I like ur heater. Something I don't need but definitely want 1 lol..
Look forward to seen how you adapt this to pushing your grows forward.
@gottagrowsometime,
Thanks growmie! Yea, sometimes I can get a bit too detailed, but this is all just for fun!
Been using Ac Infinity's Thermoforge T3 heater for just over 2 weeks and have to say that it's the best! Highly recommend! The unit easily heats a 4x4ft grow tent along with my 10x10ft lung room. Keep in mind that it never snows where I live, but it can get pretty cold in the winter (Southern California - US). What's most impressive is that in combination with the Cloudforge T7, my overall weekly VPD averages have been a lot more stable! Also the day to night temp swings have been greatly reduced (less than 10 degrees/percent difference on the weekly temps/RH averages).
I see you're running Build-A-Soil.. Great company, products, ethics! The dude has a sweet youtube channel as well worth checking out if you haven't. Cheers good luck!
